🗒️Kyushu Academic Exchange

Kyushu Academic Exchange (QAE 2025) is a tournament that combines debate practice with academic exploration. It provides, (1) academic lectures after each debate round to deepen participants’ understanding of the background and context of each topic, (2) interaction between Japanese and international students at both the high school and university levels, (3) offers exchange-focused activities such as communication rounds to foster engagement and cross-cultural understanding.We warmly welcome applications from students across Asia.

• The Communication Round will be conducted with teams randomly formed across schools, while all other rounds will be conducted with teams from each respective school.

🎤Format

PDA and HPDU StyleThe PDA and HPDU formats are debate styles unique to Japan, based on the Asian Parliamentary format but without Whip speeches. Although both formats share the same basic structure, they differ in speech durations and the rules for Points of Information (POIs).

PDA Format Preparation Time: 15 minutes ① Prime Minister (PM): 3 minutes ② Leader of Opposition (LO): 3 minutes ③ Member of Government (MG): 3 minutes ④ Member of Opposition (MO): 3 minutes ⑤ Leader of Opposition Reply (LOR): 2 minutes ⑥ Prime Minister Reply (PMR): 2 minutes

• There is no protected time for POIs—POIs may be offered at any time, including during reply speeches.
• Each constructive speaker is allowed to present only one argument.

HPDU Format Preparation Time: 20 minutes ① Prime Minister (PM): 5 minutes ② Leader of Opposition (LO): 5 minutes ③ Member of Government (MG): 5 minutes ④ Member of Opposition (MO): 5 minutes ⑤ Leader of Opposition Reply (LOR): 4 minutes ⑥ Prime Minister Reply (PMR): 4 minutes

• The first and last 30 seconds of each speech are protected time—POIs may not be offered during these periods.
• POIs are also not allowed during reply speeches.
• There is no restriction on the number of arguments a speaker may present.
